Licensing Status

As you're probably aware, the rates streaming providers have to pay broadcasters for rights to their content seems to constantly increase (way faster than inflation). As a result, when agreements are up for renewal, issues are not an uncommon thing. When enough time has passed and both parties still can't come to an agreement, channels often go dark. Sometimes things are resolved soon thereafter, other times it can last for months or years.

With DIRECTV, thankfully, they haven't been affected by licensing all that much. Much of that is due to their long-standing relationships from their satellite service. Some of those contracts are longer-term (haven't expired yet) or there are existing partnerships that preclude an impasse. Either way, good new for DIRECTV customers, especially sports fans as sports channels get hit the hardest by licensing issues.
