So, part of analysis includes checking all the terms and conditions and reporting them below. If everything checks out and is sufficiently transparent, we give it our seal of approval. So, the RSN isn't baked into the advertised price but is disclosed directly below it (granted, in smaller font). So, not ideal, but transparent enough. We assign a DIRECTV RSN fee of ~$13 (the average charge across major zip codes with a local team).

Cost and feature breakdown

Bring-your-own device (BYOD)

You can get the Premier plan via different ways, renting DIRECTV's Gemini device ($10/mo for each TV) or by using your own device like a Roku or Apple TV. We almost always recommend using your own. The Gemini is pretty adequate, though, and the remote has more features and functionality than most other 3rd party devices. Renting the Gemini does qualify you for a longer discount but that mostly offsets the cost of the Gemini anyway, so, sort of a wash.

Finally, the Gemini also qualifies you for the free Hulu/Disney+ bonus. Otherwise, using your own device lets you try everything risk-free during a 5-day trial (the Gemini removes the trial as there's a physical device being shipped out to you).

So, here's what all your discounts and charges will look like if you use your own device and opt for the trial:
