The third of four plans, Ultimate really ups the ante on movies and sports. So, while Choice is the first with regional and popular sports channels, Ultimate gives you quite a bit more coverage with favorites such as CBS Sports Network, NHL Network and more. The Fine Print

Who likes reading through fine print? Worse, there's almost never any good news. That tiny font tends to hide all kinds of nefarious stuff. We're pretty fanatical about going through the fine print and uncovering hidden fees. Here's what we found for the Ultimate plan...

So, on the official DIRECTV site, the RSN wasn't rolled into the advertised price but WAS mentioned immediately below it. Not fully transparent but also not hidden. Gets our approval. According to DIRECTV, the RSN fee can be as high as $25 but for the vast majority of zip codes, the average was closer to $13/mo. That's what we use as our RSN cost estimate throughout the site.

Cost and feature breakdown: Entertainment Plan

Gemini Air device

The Gemini is DIRECTV's streaming device that slides right into the HDMI slot on your TV. It's totally optional and will run you $10/mo. for each TV. If you don't get the Gemini, simply use a device of your own like a Roku or Apple TV. Here's are some of the Gemini's features:

• MultiView - view up to four curated channels at the same time. For example, lets you watch four different games at once and switch the audio feed to your preference.
• My Library - houses all your recorded and saved programs including those from 3rd party apps. Pretty cool feature overall.
• Google voice remote - use your voice or one of the many preset buttons on the remote to quickly and easily navigate the program guide
• Universal search - similar to the library, you can search ALL apps installed on your Gemini. Netflix, Disney, DIRECTV, etc. It'll quickly become one of the more used pages in the guide.

Using your own device (BYOD)

If you'd rather not pony up to lease the Gemini, bring your own device (BYOD) and get set up even faster. Going this route also unlocks the 5-day free trial (with the Gemini, you won't have a trial, rather a 14-day window to cancel/request a refund). The main reason for that is trials don't really jive with a physical device being shipped to you at the time of your order.

Finally, going with BYOD decreases the monthly discount from 24 months to 3. The discount's really there to offset the cost of the Gemini, so kind of a wash.
